Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer

I love red papayas, but good ones that are perfectly ripe and sweet are hard to find here.

For now I'll have to make do with Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer in Papaya, courtesy of the folks at Burts :)

It swatches as a warm, orange toned sheer red, with gold shimmer:

See below lip swatch. It is suprisingly pigmented (I had thought this would be sheerer like a MAC Slimshine), almost like lipstick. I could blot some off as well for a sheerer, more subtle look, but this is how it looks applied straight from the tube.

I've noticed it leaves slight tingly mint feeling. The flavour is pleasant and refreshing, it makes me feel as though I just brushed my teeth.

The product is also moisturizing, similar to a stick lip balm. By that I mean it is not as moisturizing as pot balms, but is on par with other stick balms I've tried (Blistex, Chapstick, Burts Bees Honey balm in stick form).

Here are the ingredients list off the website:

Ricinus communis (castor) seed oil, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, cera alba (beeswax, cire d'abeille), candelilla cera (euphorbia cerifera, cire de candelilla) wax, mentha piperita (peppermint) oil, lanolin, theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, cera carnauba (copernicia cerifera, cire de carnauba) wax, tocopherol, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, glycine soja (soybean) oil, canola oil (huile de colza), limonene, May contain+/-: CI 77491/77492/77499 (iron oxides), mica, CI 77891 (titanium dioxide), CI 75470 (carmine), CI 778161(tin oxide)

I definitely like the fact that it doesn't contain petrochemicals, or sulfates, parabens, phthalates. Doesn't hurt to be safe!

My only gripe about this product was that it cannot be twisted back down once you have twisted it up. So don't twist up too much product...like I did in the picture above!

The lip shimmers come in a variety of other shades and retail for CA$5.99.

So have you tried any of the lip shimmers? What do you think?

I have two of the lip shimmers, and I have to say, they're really not bad. I like the fact that I don't have to apply any lip balm prior to applying this (I almost always do this when I use lippies).

You're right, it doesn't twist back down! So what I do is that I press it against my lip and then press it back down. I don't share my lip products with anyone and it's already touched my lips anyway :P

Oh how I hate it when lip balms won't retract! I end up trying to push it back in with my lips when I apply it haha xD
Lol, my bf was saying how it's more expensive to make your own pho than to pay for it outside, haha! it was fun to make and definitely healthier with the lack of MSG, however, I think I'll pay for mine from now on xD

I have used this in the past, my concern about this is that it finishes up too fast I just can't keep track! I was just surprised it was finished before I knew it!!! hahaha this shade is so pretty! Mine does twist back, not sure if this is the new packaging!

I had one! but it was too shimmery for me and it melted in my car so I tossed it. =( but this one doesn't seen like it has a lot of shimmer so maybe it's just based on the colors?? o.o

I find BB's lip products to be really good considering that they are pretty much chemical free.

By the way, I really enjoyed reading your post on BB shampoos and conditioners. I learned a lot about sulphate and silicone free hair products. I, too, get really annoyed with residue build up.

Thanks for the review! It looks yummy! It's strange that it cannot be twisted back down once it's twisted up!

From their testers, I was also surprised to find that it's like a lipstick. But it's not for me, I don't feel comfortable applying this without a mirror :P

Chinatown always has so many fruits of all different ripeness, check out there when you r downtown

I tried one when I first got into makeup, and it was a sheer, shimmery nightmare!

great review! I've seen them before and always wondered how pigmented they are. It's good to know that they're REALLY pigmented for a chapstick lol I think I would purchase it if it were less pigmented. The mint feeling/sensation is interesting though :)

thanks again for the great review!
